Laser Technology’s Universal Laser Sensors Unaffected by Bitter Cold

by Kharrold, 03/04/15

The Universal Laser Sensor (ULS) is Laser Technology Inc.’s (LTI) most versatile laser in the Laser Sensor Division.  Not only is the ULS is fully programmable, but it easily identifies difficult targets

This includes liquids, non-reflective material, and fast-moving objects. Additionally, the ULS is fully functional in extreme temperatures. For example, the LTI ULS was hard at work in Nova Scotia at 7:00 AM on March 1, 2015. There, the laser sensor assisted ship-docking with flawless execution despite the temperature being negative 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

Universal Laser Sensor Handles Ship Docking With Ease

In this particular application, the ULS units are placed in enclosures that connect to a computer. The system then displays distances from ship to dock. These lasers function in poor visibility, including heavy rain or fog, and are eye-safe to the highest FDA class-1 standard.

For ship docking, the lasers can be permanently or semi-permanently mounted on a ship or on shore, or even placed on a tripod for a more portable solution. Being able to acquire accurate measurements to almost any type of surface makes vessel and shore based maneuvers more manageable. Users can instantly know bridge gap values, water lock heights or any other measurement value you may need. Read more information on LTI’s laser sensors at work in Vehicle Equipment Guidance.
