LTI began development in the South American Traffic Safety Market in 1994, in Brazil. Since then, Brazil has become one of its best-performing countries. This led to the introduction of LTI’s PicoDigiCAM, TruCAM, and TruFlash speed enforcement products into many Latin American countries.
LTI first established European relations in 1991. This came after the sale of LTI 20/20 Marksman laser speed guns for use in Austria, a nation that continued business with LTI and became one of the largest TruSpeed device users in the world. Soon after, the Institute of Forest Ecosystem Research (IFER) in the Czech Republic integrated LTI lasers for forestry inventory measurements. In 2011, the Forests of the Czech Republic Institution, the LESYCR, launched an initiative with 800 TruPulse® laser range finders to aid in measuring standing trees in lots for auction.[19]

As European metrologies have accepted the benefits of using lidar technology, LTI has seen its influence expanded beyond commercial products, including the development of the first speed simulator designed to enable laboratory testing of laser speed guns[20]. Laser Technology, Inc. has since advanced on to the 3rd generation version of this same simulator, which can be found in use by most approval agencies around the world. Currently, LTI is approved and selling laser speed measurement devices, both with and without camera systems, in most European countries.
