NYPD Crack Down During Speed Week with LTI Laser Speed Devices

Last week, New York State Police put into action this year's Speed Week campaign, a week-long initiative to crack down on speeding and aggressive drivers.

According to Times Union, "Speeding is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes in the state of New York. In 2013, 352 people were killed and around 19,000 injured in speed-related crashes throughout the state".

Troopers equipped with LTI's laser speed devices observed in both marked and concealed identity traffic enforcement vehicles throughout the state. They will be watching for speeding, distracted and impaired drivers, drivers who are not properly buckled up and violations of the Move Over Law, which requires motorists to give safe clearance to law enforcement officers.

As one of LTI's bigger customers in the North Atlantic Region, LTI lasers were also used during last year's Speed Week campaign where State Police effectively issued over 22,000 traffic tickets, including more than 10,000 for speeding and over 600 for violations of the Move Over Law.
